We’re back for the second part of our interview with the lovely Lauran McGuire, our fantastic Manager of Human Resources at Sky Inc. (If you missed Part 1 you can read it here!)
Aside from being an essential member of the Sky Inc family, Lauran has a family of her own. We took a few minutes to talk with her about what it is like wearing so many hats and taking on so many roles between mother, employee, leader, recruiter – the works!
What’s life like as a mommy?
L: Life is crazy being a mom, I find rocks in my laundry every day, I’m brought live spiders while I’m cooking dinner — but I have Sunday morning snuggles, cartoons, bedtime stories and the best job in the world, which is watching a human develop into an incredible person.
Just as there are ups and downs on the journey of parenthood, there are also ups and downs along the way to finding your dream job and choice career. So we asked Lauran about what she would’ve done differently, given the chance.
What advice would you give your younger self?
L: I definitely would tell my younger self to take more risks, don’t settle and don’t ever believe that you’re stuck in a situation that you can’t get out of, personal or professional; like in your career don’t ever think that you’re stuck where you’re at — you can always go further.
What career advice will you give your kids?
L: Gosh — especially being in our business I would tell my children, “go with what you believe in, don’t listen to everyone else with their opinions,” I think that a lot of people listen to other peoples’ opinions more than their own gut feeling, which if everyone did that, there wouldn’t be so many fantastic successful people in the world.
Lauran is currently raising her family in Nashville, TN, a hub of music and arts, interesting people and so many opportunities around every corner.
What’s your favorite part of Nashville?
L: I love living in Nashville because you have the best of both worlds — you have the big city and you can literally drive ten minutes out and be in the country, looking at cows — there’s always something fun going on, Nashville is never a boring place to be.
Nashville, Tennessee and Sky Inc are lucky to have Lauran.
A big thanks to Lauran for taking part in this interview! Check back soon for more blog posts and like Sky Inc on Facebook for daily updates!
